The Ottawa Public Library is a Magnificent Resource

Teaching and encouraging a love of reading is one of the most valuable gifts you can give to your child. Before television and computers, reading was the primary leisure activity for many people. However, today, with so many other entertainment possibilities available for children, it's much more important for parents to spend time reading to their children and encouraging them to read for themselves because reading is a skill that needs to be practiced constantly. It is also an essential skill for success in school and life. That's why a membership in the Ottawa Public Library is so useful for you and your child.

The Ottawa Public Library operates numerous, conveniently located branches spread out across the city with hours of service that make them easy to visit.

New books are very expensive to purchase which is why a library membership card represents such excellent value. In addition to being able to borrow books for free from its extensive collection, the Ottawa Public Library also operates used book stores in a number of their branches. In these stores, volunteers from the OPL sell books very very inexpensively that have been removed from circulation. Excellent bargains can be found in these stores every day.

Need Access to a Computer?

The library provides computer services at all branches during the library's hours of operation.

Up to two hours per day of PC access for valid library cardholders.
PC time can be booked in advance using their Online Booking System (OBS) or as available on a drop in basis.
High speed and wireless service is available in all branches.
To use the library's computers you need to have a valid library card.
